WHO IS A PUNTER AND WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT.
By: Stan Cullimore
Relax and read on.
Sometimes known as “Billy Bunters.” These are the people who come to your gigs, buy your records, ask for your autograph and write you letters. They are also the people who pay your wages. So not only are they extremely useful, they are also Extremely Important. Hopefully, having played a few gigs you will have picked up a handful of punters: loyal fans who will follow you through thick and thin, who will learn the lyrics to all your songs, and who will be there to cheer you on, when nobody else gives a monkey-spit about you. It is vital that you look after these punters, and if possible get them to breed, until one day they will become an army, powerful enough to hurl you (and your music) high up into the charts. In other words, when somebody likes you, grab a hold of them and don't let go! (A bite like life, really).
About the Author: Stan Cullimore -- was the guitarist and CO-songwriter for a band called The Housemartins. This group was around in the mid-eighties, had numerous hits around the world (including at least one No. 1), and released several albums (which sold lots and lots of copies).
