WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT BEING A POPSTAR?
By: Stan Cullimore
Relax and read on.
Well, in no particular order of preference, it strikes me that some of the main advantages of 'Pop stardom' are the following:
1. You make lots of money;
2. You become really famous;
3. You are doing something 'creative';
4. You get a chance to show off in public;
5. You don't have to get up early in the morning; and ....... I repeat ..
6. You make lot's of money!
If none (or hardly any) of the above appeals to you, all I can say is: Congratulations! Obvious you are one of those fortunate people to whom the idea of working in an office for the rest of your life is not a depressing to one. My advice to you is to finish reading this article, inform all your friends about it -- and then take up train spotting!
[Not that I have anything against train spotters per se (I myself used to have an anorak). No.
All I mean is that should you ever decide to take it up, there is absolutely no danger of you ever becoming Rich and Famous by accident. (It also means that you will have lots of opportunities to get up early in the morning!)]
But if, on the other hand, all of the above appeals to you -- don't worry, you are not alone. Help is at hand, or rather, IN your hand. This article has been written (by me), to help people like you make their dreams come true.
[Although obviously I can't give you a Money back Guarantee, I can promise you that after reading this article you will be at least three things:
A. Slightly poorer;
B. Greatly wiser about the workings of the music business; and
c. Well on the way to being 'A Pop star'.]
Which brings me nearly to point B above, that is to say:
IF THIS TIP WORKS, HOW COME YOU'RE NOT A POP STAR --MR. AUTHOR?
Relax and read on.
For the simple reason, that I have already been one, thank you! I was the guitarist and CO-songwriter for a band called The Housemartins. This group was around in the mid-eighties, had numerous hits around the world (including at least one No. 1), released several albums (which sold lots and lots of copies), and generally did the sort of things that successful pop groups do. (Except throwing televisions out of hotel windows. We never did that -- bananas, yes. But televisions, no.) Anyway I am not a pop star, because (as they say in Milton Keynes) I've been there, done that -- and bought the T-shirt. I have always found the music is more business than music. The sounds may change -- and new toys get invented. But, throughout it all, "The Business" remains the same.
